After a Big 14 Hour Day yesterday, we decided that today would involve relaxing and errands. Soon we realized that those two are in juxtaposition, but first - coffee!
We went to a cute cute shop where I got coffee (Jason doesn't drink coffee, which sometimes makes me feel like an addict which I indubitably am) and we hung out and enjoyed cell service. We brought our own mugs, asked the cashier where we could recycle our bulging bag of recyclable material, to which she responded, “I have no idea”, and we crafted a to-do list that included fun things like get windshield wiper fluid and go to urgent care.
“What?! Urgent care?!…” say you. Yeah, my thumbs are splitting and a Grand Canyon has formed off the coast of my big thumb nail and threatens to take first place in Finger Issues. By the way, the finger injuries I mentioned in prior posts all seem to have healed. Jason and I have no finger pain, woohoo!
I'll have to take a photo of my thumbs soon, but thankfully they were able to glue one thumb shut and as for the other, the doctor suggested I climb in gloves and stay in a “clean, secure place” where I am permitted to air dry the deep skin crack. I told her I'm living in a van and haven't showered in 9 days, to which she grimaced and encouraged me to wash it a million times and use moisturizer to prevent more rifts in my skin. I begged her to glue it shut but she refused, asking me if it was possible to glue shut the Mariana trench. Ok she never said that, but I've had to resort to band aids, tape, and frequent hand washing.
The rest of the day was spent running errands, chilling for hours in an Albertsons parking lot, and realizing that Vegas/ civilization kind of stresses us out. Jason witnessed an attempted robbery, I overheard distressing news in the grocery store that I could do nothing about, and asphalt stained with oil and various liquids radiated hot sticky heat back at us. We had to leave and retreat to nature. Wandering back to the Red Rock campground, we found a pair we had met at Solar Slab and we enjoyed a lovely evening with them. Ah, the relief of stepping out of civilization and being in good company.
